Lunacon Science Fiction Convention

True Science Fiction fans will travel a long way to attend a science fiction convention and they will also make a lot of effort with their costume! There is a phenomenon called "cosplay" that is popular at comic book and sci fi events, this is where people dress up as their favourite character form comic books , anime or science fiction show and they enjoy feeling part of a community where this form of escapism is accepted as a healthy practice.

There are many different components to a cosplay costume - wigs, make up, latex and spandex suits, leather and PVC, coloured contact lenses and other small accessories. Most of these items can be purchased from the show as there are a number of local and international businesses selling and promoting their products using exhibition stands.

These conventions are also a great place for budding artists and authors of science fiction work to showcase their work to other high profile authors and to get their favourite character's autograph. This can be a very exciting time in their life as it can be a platform to launch a whole new career in the science fiction industry.

Some things to remember though when approaching these exhibitions:

*Never interrupt an actor / author while they are in general conversation with others, there are Bespoke exhibition stands set up for the general public to meet and greet with the stars.

* Don't ruin the talks of the speakers on stage or in a workshop area by talking loudly or acting up.

*Try to respect other people's tastes, especially in costumes... never stare at others in costume.

*Don't spend too much time with the autographing star as they will have a long line of others waiting for their time

*Never get them to autograph anything unrelated to their book, film or show ... this is considered very rude and offensive.

So remember to have fun at the show, but be respectful of others! Happy Sci-fi convention...
